Foundersís DayReport- 2018

The newly constructed Krishna Hostel of JDMC was inaugurated by the Honorable former President of India ,ShriPranabMukherjee, on the 1st August 2018 on the occasion of the Founderís Day of the college. The presenceand inspirational words of Dr.Pranab Mukherjee struck the chord of the students and teachers alike as he spoke for greater investment of resources in the field of education. Theesteemed Vice-chancellor of University of Delhi, Prof. YogeshK.Tyagi also graced this occasion which was attended by Prof. SwatiSaha and Dr. Adity Krishna. August members of the college governing body, Dr. Swati Pal, Principal of the college, presided over the function which was conducted successfully by the staff advisors- Dr. Jayanti P. Sahoo and Dr. SipuJayswal and the team of students, teaching and non-teaching staff.

Janki Devi Memorial College Celebrates 58th Founderís Day

The bright and auspicious morning of August 1, 2016witnessed the celebrations of the 58th Founder’s Day of Janki Devi Memorial College.The occasion was graced by Shri. Aditya Krishna, the Chairman of the Brij Krishna ChandiwalaSewa Smarak Trust who was also the chief guest. He was joined by Ms. Kusum Krishna, chairperson, college governing body, Dr. (Mrs.) Kunj Gupta, member governing body, Professor. Shreemati Chakravarti, University of Delhi representative.


The occasion began with a beautiful rendition of the college prayer. This was followed by a tribute by Sarang, the Indian Music Society of the college, to Shri Brij Krishan Chandiwala (Bhaiji) - the founder of the college. The guests were felicitated by the principal Dr. Swati Pal with potted plants and a book written by Dr. (Mrs.) Hem Bhatnagar (principal, JDMC during 1985-86), which recounts her experiences of the academic, social and cultural life of the college.

In her welcome address, Dr. Swati Pal paid a tribute to the founder of the college Shri Brij Krishan Chandiwala, who founded the college in the memory of his mother Smt. Janki Devi in 1959 in order to promote women’s education and empowerment. She also acknowledged the immense contribution made by Bhaiji to the field of women's education in a newly independent India with all the challenges that it entailed. She also appreciated the fortitude of the teaching, non- teaching staff and students in organising the day's event.

Kritika Kumar, a student of Nupur, the Classical Indian Dance Society presented a fabulous performance of Thillana, a concluding piece in the Bharatnatyam repertoire, exemplifying pure dance.

The chief guest, Shri Aditya Krishna, highlighted the importance of education and financial independence especially for women in India. He also spoke of the need to overcome the social, cultural, and gendered constraints that women face in their everyday lives. He spoke of the importance of failure and passion to one's growth as an individual.

Mrs. Kusum Krishna recounted many incidents from Bhaiji's life and his varied contributions to the social uplift and welfare of the marginalised groups. She underscored how his social engagements are still relevant today in the form of the Swachh Bharat and the Beti Bachaao programmes initiated by the current government. She encouraged the students to take his legacy forward.

The celebrations were concluded by the felicitation of select teaching and non-teaching staff on completion of 25 years of meritorious services, offered to the institution.
