Sarang The Indian Music Society


Sarang, The Indian Music Society was formed by the music department in the year 2012 with the objective of involving musically capable students of various disciplines and training them inexpressing their musical capabilities.

The Music faculty works tirelessly to hone and chisel the innate talent of the students by inspiring and training them to blossom into capable performers. The society has gone a long way in introducing the students to the nuances of our very rich cultural heritage.

The students of the Sarang society have participated in several college functions as well as in inter-college competitions and festivals winning numerous prizes and awards.

Harsimran Kaur (2013) and Nandini Sharma(2015) both Presidents of this society, were specially trained in SUFI MUSIC, and were given a life time opportunity to accompany their teacher Dr. Gurinder H. Singh to EGYPT, for providing back vocals at the International SAMA Festival under the aegis of Indian Council for cultural relations (ICCR) in September2015.



AIM OF THE SOCIETY

SARANG, the Music Society of Janki Devi Memorial College aims at enhancing the musical talent among students by grooming them for an all round development through active participation on stage-shaping them into future artistes.

Sarang actively participated in several programmes through the entire academic session


1. Independence Day (15/08/2018):

The Music Society celebrated the Independence Day festivities with performing the national anthem, national song and other patriotic songs paying homage to the country and its Martyrs .


2. Music Society Auditions

The Music Society auditions were held on 3rd August 2018 . Over 75 students enthusiastically turned up. The auditions were conducted by the elected Union Members.



3. Teachers' Day

As s token of gratitude Sarang the Music Society put up performances dedicated to our teachers on the occasion. The newly inducted members worked tirelessly and presented a vibrant medly which was much appreciated by the audience.




4.Symphony-2019

Sarang Society presented a scintillating and popular rendition of Amir Khusro , "CHAAP TILAK SAB CHEENI TOSE NAINA MILAKE" as its annual performance in SYMPHONY 2019. Symphony `19, the annual cultural festival of jDMCwitnessed by eminent writer, director AnirudhPathak and Renowned Kathak Exponent Pt. Deepak Maharaj.

5. Republic Day (26/01/2017):

During the Republic Day celebrations Sarang presented The National

Anthem and the National song.followed by

'SatyamevJayate', The vocally challenging songs were sung by a choir of twelve, accompanied on the tabla and harmonium. The second track was an instrumental, that of Mahatma Gandhi's favourite prayer,

'RaghupatiRaghav Raja Ram'. The performance received accolades from many members of the faculty, and the audience.
