STAFF ADVISORS ,STUDENT'S REPORT 2017-18

The Staff advisors to student's union Dr. Sangeeta Gupta and Dr. Poonam Yadav along with the union members had an extremely challenging year, full of events and activities.

The Union members along with the staff advisors organized various activities at Inter and Intra college level. The various activities include music, dance, drama, debates and seminars aimed at providing ample opportunities to the students to express and develop their talent.

ORIENTATION DAY

The Orientation Day was held on 20th July 2017. It was attended by the freshers who were warmly welcomed by the Principal, Dr. Swati Pal. She encouraged the students to participate freely in the multi-faceted college life and emphasized the need for women empowerment. This was followed by cultural program by different societies.

FOUNDER'S DAY

59th Founder's Day was celebrated on 1st of August 2017. The celebration unfolded with beautiful performances from Societies like Nupur and Anubhuti. The day was commemorated by the presence of some renowned personalities like Mr. Bindeshwar Pathak, Chairperson of Sulabh International. and, Kusum Krishna Mrs. Meenakshi Lekhi,. Also our college became the FIRST EVER college under Delhi University to come up with an initiative called ECO ZONE.

INDEPENDENCE DAY

The morning of 15th August 2017 had the college celebrate Independence Day with great zeal among everyone. The 'TIRANGA' was hoisted by our principal, Dr. Swati Pal. It was a proud moment for all which was followed by singing of the National Anthem. The gathering was then presented with sweets as everyone proceeded to fly kites and enjoy the independence of this great nation.

SYMPHONY 2018

10th JANUARY TO 12TH JANUARY 2018

Symphony, the annual cultural festival of Janki Devi memorial college kick started with a bang on 10th of January 2018. The festival started with the inaugural ceremony. The Chief guest, Vidya Rao and the Guest of honor Pandit Abhay Rustum Sopuri were warmly welcomed and they enlightened the students with their speech on the importance of education and culture. The lamp for auspiciousness was lit by the college Principal declaring the inauguration of the annual fest. The three day fest had 25 events lined up, including Munadi the annual Street play competition which was the highlight of Day one. Day two was a day of amalgamation of 13 power packed events going on side by side and yet they unanimously served the magnificent platter of Symphony'18. Various competitions like Jabberwocky, Business plan, Let's Dance,The Quiz show, Ragini, Paper Mania, Footloose and many more, brought the finest talents imbibed within the young artists to the forefront. The day was filled with amazing performances and the excitement of the results in every event kept the attention of the audiences gripping. Too many teams, too many eliminations and the audience couldn't just keep calm. All in all, within these competitions, performances and the get together there was beauty in the madness.

Third day took off from the same peak, right from where the day 2 left. A plethora of crazy variety of events and a rock show proved that nothing else could have been better to conclude the ravaging fest that symphony was.

With more than 50 teams competing and showcasing their talents, symphony day 3 was a bang!

Loads of Shakespeare, loads of dance, colorful rangolis and music events to put you in a trance. True to the name, the fest felt like a symphony of talent and passion that flows in the veins of these performers.

The fest started in full zest and the energy only grew towards the end. The three day extravaganza finally came to an end with a powerful rock show which was a star studded event with performers like *Astitva the band* and *dj A Sen* and *dj revoic*. The audience had a great time dancing to the songs and the EDM beats. . Thus the fest closed with the most awaited event, the rock show and it was absolutely worth the wait. With thousands tapping their foot and singing along, the conclusion to this fest was a fulfilling reward. Symphony 2018 was a huge success which truly held its Essence in accordance with its name.

ANNUAL DAY

5th APRIL 2018

Janki Devi memorial College celebrated it's 59th annual day on 5th April, 2018. The theme for this year's celebration was "Act, Act In The Living Present".

The day was marked by the attendance of eminent personalities from various walks of lives and a great audience turnout.

What could be a better way to kickstart the day than with the blessings of the almighty; the lamp lighting ceremony followed by the melody of the college prayer set the auspicious aura in place for the festivities to begin.

The event started with our hosts introducing the guests of honor for the day, followed by their facilitation. Eminent persons included Ms. Payal Mago, Prof. Sushma Yadav, Dr. Indu Anand, Dr. joshi and previous principals amongst others.

Dr. Swati Pal (principal) was ecstatic to see the turnout of student and faculty for the event and opened the event formally with a welcome note, extended to all guests, parents, faculty members and students.

It is rightly said that music has a binding effect on people, no matter where they are coming from and rightly so, the performance by Euphony, the western music society, held everyone together in the spirit of hard work and the happiness of achieving. The performance was a medley of motivating songs by Pink Floyd and The Scripts.

Right after that, the principal Dr. Swati Pal, introduced the annual report for the year to the audience. The report was presented by Dr. pal herself, assisted with a slide presentation with elaborate details.

College's first ever NAAC accredition, topped the long list of achievements; earlier in the year the college went through the first round of accredition and was awarded a B++ grade by NAAC. The college looks forward to regular inspections now.

Academically, the college saw some amazing results from student with 88% students with a first division status from B.A. Economics Honors and more than 86% students with a first division status from BCOM.

The college saw a 100% pass rate of students from B.A. English, sociology, Philosophy etc.

Dr. Pal was proud to announce that the college students have more than 200 awards to their names apart from team achievements. It was a great year for the sports department as well, apart from bagging the title of 'champions' at BITS Women's' Football, the college team played at as many as 19 state and national level tournaments.

A college is made up of the efforts and achievements of both, students and teachers, giving true meaning to this statement, Dr. Pal continued by applauding the achievements of faculty members. The college is proud to have faculty members who published 43 international publications in the previous year and gave 19 international paper presentations as well. Along with that, many members received their PhDs which again is a matter of pride for the institution.

Concluding the report, Dr. Pal talked about various college societies and their contribution to the college, this segment, having maximum student engagement, attracted the most cheering from the enthusiastic crowd. This was followed by the listing of MoUs various societies and departments signed in the previous year, one such MoU was with the University of Munster and the department of sociology, for the cause of making safer cities for women.

In the light of recent events in society and realizing the pressure that students go through, the principal also highlighted the addition of Ms. Sanya Bedi as a part time counsellor for the college students.

The annual was ended with a heart felt congratulation to all students and teachers by the principal for making it an amazing year for the college!

Moving forward, the hosts invited the guests for the day on stage for the launch of the annual magazine Janki, which is broadly managed by the students. Watching your hard work come to life is a proud moment for everyone and so it was for the student body and the teachers involved in the making of the magazine.

This was followed by rounds of prize distribution by various guest, recognizing the hard work of the students, in academics and otherwise.

Students won scholarships and prizes for their achievement in sports, academics, raising awareness for social causes, extracurricular activities etc. the prize distribution also included prizes for students from Janki Devi Vocational Center and prizes for staff advisors.

Nupur, the Indian dance society of the college, was specially appraised for their recent achievements. They also gave a splendid performance, mixing 5 songs and various forms of classical dances to tell a tale of harassment and crimes against women along with a strong message of woman empowerment.

The concluding performance of the day was a piece performed by Anubhuti, the street play society of the college. They performed a part of the self-composed and self-directed play, 'the upside down'; the powerful expression of the actors and their convincing monologues made the audience ponder about vital issues that we a society easily overlook.

OTHER EVENTS

The 3rd International Yoga Day was celebrated in the college auditorium on 21st June 2017 under the guidance of yoga experts, Shri S.K. Saggar and Shri Amit Kumar.

Students' Union Elections were held on 9th August 2017 for the post of vice-president, General Secretary, and Treasurer. Paper free E-elections were held very successfully with 1000+ voters. The elected posts being that of the President, the Vice President, the General Secretary and the Treasurer.

The extended union consists of Discipline Heads, Cultural Heads, Cultural Heads, Media Heads, Sponsorship Heads, Cleanliness Heads, Hospitality Heads, and Refreshment Heads.

The Oath-taking ceremony for the Students' Union was held on 16th August,2017. It was followed by the principal's speech.

Delhi Times Oppo Fresh face was held on 7th September, 2017. It was a freshers' hunt to seek out the most confident face amongst the freshers. The judges of the event were Ria, editor of Delhi Times and singers LOC and Brown Gal.

Teacher's day was celebrated with four performances packed with energy, a heart warming poem and heart touching melodies, this teachers day we definitely strengthened the student-teacher bond through expression.

Miss JDMC contest which is a personality contest which is a personality contest and a platform for freshers to showcase their talents was held on 12th September 2017. The contest was won by Muskan Tyagi and runner-up positions were bagged by Gul Nagpal, and Ann Afreen . On the same day, 'HT Fresh On Campus' contest was also held which was organised by Hindustan Times.

Mood Indigo, the cultural fest of IIT Mumbai on their multicity eliminations made their first stop in Delhi on 7th and 8th October. The two-day event and eliminations were held in Janki Devi Memorial College for various events Aagaaz,MI Idol, Indigo Saga, MI-Nem and Desi Beats. The event witnessed almost 550 participants and a crowd of more than 700 on both the days.

RUN FOR UNITY marathon was organised on 31st October on the occasion of Sardar Patel's birthday for which 50 students of NCC, NSS, and sports department participated.

TRAFIC RULE AWARENESS CAMPAIGN was held on 3rd November 2017.

'On the occasion of APJ Abdul Kalam's birthday, various competitions such as essay writing, greeting card making, letter writing, poster making and article writing etc were held. The winners were felicitated in APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial Event held in Delhi Haat.

Various competitions such as essay writing and debate were held in Vigilance Awareness Week in association with LIC and NTC. Certificates and Exiting Prices were given to the winners as well as the participants.

A seminar on 'Career in Civil Services' was organized by the faculty and former student of Vision IAS on 15th January 2018 in the Seminar Hall.

TEDx JDMC is an independently organized TED event which promises to propagate ideas and welcome innovation. It was organized on 10th February 2018 which involved 13 speakers from different fields. It was initiated by Ananya Malhotra and Divya Dhingra.

Annual Alumnae Meet was held on 17th March, 2018 in the college. The alumnae association donated Braille sign boards to facilitate visually impaired girls. The winner of he logo competition was Ms.Rishika Nayyar who was felicitated on the Alumnae Meet. The Alumnae Meet was well attended by our alumnae and their companions. The event turned out to be a great success.

The Staff Advisors and the Students' Union would like to thank the Principal, faculty and the administrative staff for their continued support in managing all these events successfully.
